Ann lived happily with her husband till one day she brought home a woman who he called his second wife. This, she endured with the daily battering for the sake of her children. Then one afternoon he beat her up really bad. Ann decided to live and go to her brother's house.

Few days later, Ann's husband came to her brothers house and begged her to return home promising never to hurt her again.

On the day Ann returned to her matrimonial home, her Husband was not home. However her co-wife happily welcomed her back.

Her co-wife also gave her some money their husband had left to go and buy some food for supper.

When she returned from the market, they cooked the supper together as they talked.

Later Ann excused her self to go to her hut and unpack. However her hut was empty.

She came back and asked her co -wife where her bedding were.

Her co-wife told her to wait and ask their husband.

A few minutes later, Anna's co-wife walked to hut and never came out.

When the meal waas ready, Ann went to call her co-wife to come and have supper with them but she declined. Anna and her children had supper and retired to her hut.

When her husband returned from his usual drinking sprees, he came to Ann's house and demanded for food.

As he ate, he asked her where his second wife was.

Ann told him she was in her hut.

He left to go and find her.

Whatever Ann's Co-wife told their husband is something she has never understood.

All Ann remembers is her husband coming back to her hut very furious carrying a huge log which he used to hit her. He hit her continously on the head. When it broke, he picked up a hoe that Ann kept in her house and cut her several times on the head.

When Ann helplessly struggled to get out, he pulled her back in and picked one of the broken pieces of the log and inserted it into her vagina repeatedly till Ann lay uncounscious.

He left her for dead.

Ann's co-wife called out to the neighbors to come and help. Anna was rushed to hospital in a critical condition.

Ann was in a coma for several months. Nobody thought Ann would come out of this alive.

Ann says only God knows why he kept her alive to this day.

MIFUMI got to learn of Ann while she was at the hospital. Mifumi tookup up Anna's case and committed itself to see Anna get justice.

MIFUMI Directors and staff visited Ann, interviewed her mother, supportd her both morally and finacially, followed up with the police on her case to ensure that the perpetrator had been brought to account.

Ann has been resettled; land was bought for her, a house built and offered a job at MIFUMI so as to uplift her economic status. Today she is a happy mother with a home and able to care for her children.

Even after listening to her tragic story, Ann can still afford a smile on her now deformed lips;

'Only God knows why he gave me a second chance.the recovery proccess aws not easy. Today, my life has improved completely. I am eternally grateful to MIFUMI for all they have done for me.

Ann also said that she would not like to see any woman go thruogh what she went through;not even her children.

she said Women's decisions should always be respected. Relatives of the woman should believe in the woman's story even when she decides to leave she should be supported.
