MIFUMI is a local rural based NGO working to protect women and Children from domestic Violence and Bride price violations in the District of Tororo.

'MIFUMI' the organisation got its name from Mifumi; a village 20km out of Tororo town where the organisation was founded.




MIFUMI as a Non-Governmental Organisation is working to protect women and children from domestic violence through:

Providing legal aid services to cases of Domestic Violence and Bride Price Violations

Providing advice and support on domestic violence to women and children about their personal safety and development.

Addressing issues of HIV/Aids and poverty.

MIFUMI has also come up with programs that lead to development in terms of providing support through;

· Income generating activities.

· Skills development for people.

· Fair trade though businesses.

· Building strong support group.

 




 

The core purpose of MIFUMI's existenceis Protec ting Women and Children from Domestic Violence.

MIFUMI upholds the following values and principles in its line of work;

* To Believe women and children’s experience of abuse

* To prioritise all abused women and children’s Safety and Confidentiality.

* To support Empowerment and Self-help so that the women can regain control of their lives.

* To challenge Discrimination and promote Equal opportunities.

* To promote staff Team spirit and personal growth.




MIFUMI’s vision is a world where women and children are free from violence and oppression and where everyone has the opportunity to realize their full potential.

 




MIFUMI position is that Bride Price should become a bridal Gift that is non-refundable.




 

MIFUMI started in a remote village in Kirewa subcounty called Mifumi.

The last 10 years have seen MIFUMI grow and extend its services to the whole of Tororo District. The district has over 555,574 people, 282,354 are female and 273,220 are Male.

Recently MIFUMI opened up a new office in Kampala to extend our services further to the central region.




MHRDN is an abbreviation for MIFUMI Human Rights Defenders Network.

MHRDN has 20 network member organisation working in patternership to Protect women and Children From domestic violence and Bride price Violations across the Five Districts of Tororo, Iganga, Busia, Mbale and pallisa.
