Family Honors Legacy of John Carnegie in Charity Run for Mifumi Primary School

On October 6th, 2024, John Carnegie’s family participated in the Ravenscroft Relay Marathon in Jersey to raise funds for Mifumi Primary School in Uganda. This event, held in memory of the late John Carnegie, sought to continue his impactful work in supporting education for rural Ugandan children. Carnegie’s dedication to building the school’s infrastructure is well remembered, and this charity run aims to carry forward his mission.

The Mifumi Primary School faces a pressing shortage of textbooks, with a pupil-to-book ratio of 10:1, hampering learning for hundreds of children. The family, led by Jacob Carnegie, set out with a fundraising goal of £1,000. Through the overwhelming support of the community, they surpassed their expectations, raising £3,353 . The funds raised will be used to purchase new textbooks, directly addressing the educational needs of the students and improving their learning environment.

During the run, participants shared their stories and connection to John’s legacy, expressing their passion for education. The event was filled with moments of joy, from the runners crossing the finish line to heartfelt messages from supporters cheering them on both online and in person. Zanett Schiller, Mifumi’s Goodwill Ambassador, joined the run, further highlighting the global impact of Carnegie’s work.

“Thank you to everyone who donated and supported us. John’s legacy lives on through your generosity, and the pupils at Mifumi will have the books they need to progress in their education.”
Jacob Carnegie

The family invites continued donations to ensure that every child in Mifumi has the resources to succeed in their studies. Together, we are honoring a legacy and making a lasting difference in the lives of hundreds of children.
