Violence Against Women & Girls
MIFUMI is one of very few organisations in Uganda and the African the continent that provides direct domestic violence services to survivors and other people experiencing domestic violence. As such, a core aspect of MIFUMI’s model of work involves a physical presence right in the communities where we work, so that our team of dedicated staff are able to interface directly and personally with beneficiaries on a daily basis. This is what makes MIFUMI unique. Our presence on the ground means we can ably respond to real challenges with realistic solutions that are informed by the service users themselves. Critical among MIFUMI’s service portfolio includes;
- A purpose built Haven in Tororo and women shelters in Moroto, Mbarara and Masaka offering emergency and crisis accommodation and support for women escaping violence and abuse,
- 23 Community based Advice Centres in Tororo and Bukedea offering hand-held support to duty bearer offices, counselling, advice, information, referrals, case handling, outreaches and legal aid to survivors of violence and abuse.
- The 24 hour toll free National Domestic Violence Helpline (0800 200 250) offering free and confidential counselling, advice and referrals.
